Spring Birdathon: What is it?

Spring is a great time of year to go birding. Make it more worthwhile by raising money, joining in some friendly competition, and even winning a great prize!

What is the Spring Birdathon?

Similar to a "walk-a-thon", it is one of our most important fundraisers. To participate, form your own team or join one of our prearranged guided teams, gather pledges, and then count bird species anytime within the Sring Birdathon Window for either four hours (count up to 4 hours) or 24 hours (count between 4 and 24 hours). People who raise the most money win valuable prizes that are given away at the free awards dinner.

Kids and the environment benefit!

Thanks to you, the Birdathon fundraising record has been broken each year as more and more folks find out how fun and easy it is to participate. This growth has enabled SCVAS to increase the number of youngsters, many of them from low income families, that we can reach with our science education programs. There are many ways that we put your dollars to work educating kids. This fundraising also supports our many conservation programs that make us one of the most respected conservation organizations in the Bay Area.

Great prizes!

Prizes go to those that raise the most money, so review our pledge hints to maximize your pledges. Expert and beginning birders can both win big!

  • Browse our long list of sponsors and prizes often since we are always adding to it.
  • Receive your prize at the Awards Dinner in June at McClellan Ranch, where you will also get a chance to win additional prizes for quizzes, contests, and raffles.
